The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to place popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, also known as Kwam 1, on a No-Fly list pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into his alleged unruly behavior at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Minister said he had received comprehensive reports from relevant aviation agencies, including video evidence, regarding the altercation between Kwam 1 and the crew of ValueJet.
Keyamo described the incident as a “temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides,” warning that it could have led to serious safety risks.
“From all the details so far received, my preliminary impression is that it was obviously a case of temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides, which could have led to serious fatalities,” he wrote.
Contrary to claims made by Kwam 1’s associates, Keyamo said investigations indicate that the musician repeatedly moved around the tarmac and deliberately blocked an aircraft from taxiing for takeoff—a serious safety breach.
“Whether he was carrying water or alcohol is immaterial at this point. The physical obstruction of an aircraft from taxiing is a grave and unacceptable act. It’s akin to a hostage situation,” the Minister said.
Keyamo further stated that both the musician and the pilots involved violated safety protocols outlined by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). He revealed that he had already ordered the temporary suspension of the licenses of the Captain and Pilot of the aircraft pending a full investigation.

While commending the ValueJet crew for their initial proactive response, the Minister criticised their one-sided disciplinary action.
“I have also questioned their sense of justice in acting against one party and not the other. What applies to the goose must also apply to the gander. Justice must be impartial.”
He warned that all domestic and international airlines must comply with the No-Fly directive or risk having their operating licenses withdrawn.
“In the circumstance, I have directed the NCAA to place Kwam 1 on the No-Fly list pending further and full investigation, just like the Captain and Pilot.”
The directive underscores the government’s commitment to aviation safety and maintaining order within airport environments.
