President Bola Tinubu has approved the full payment of match bonuses and allowances for the Super Falcons ahead of their final match against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The announcement was made on Thursday by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, who confirmed that all entitlements—covering players, coaches, and officials—up to and including the July 26 final, have been disbursed for immediate payment.
Dikko described the move as a clear demonstration of President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to Nigerian athletes, calling it a “policy in motion” that reflects a new standard of accountability and prompt reward in sports administration.
“This is now the new norm—timely payments without drama or delays,” Dikko said.
The gesture also extends to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are set to begin their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire. They, too, will receive enhanced bonuses and allowances.
“This is the kind of sports administration we are building—one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” Dikko added. “Future generations will remember these reforms as turning points in Nigerian sports.”
