Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that leaders of the emerging political coalition will support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the former Rivers State governor emphasized that the coalition is committed to a transparent, free, and fair primary process.
“Once a candidate emerges from the primary, all of us will support them. That’s the agreement,” Amaechi stated. “We insist on a transparent and credible process.”
Amaechi, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also criticized the current administration, citing widespread hunger and economic hardship. He urged the people of Rivers State to join the ADC and help vote out the APC in 2027.
“Every Rivers man who cares about the future of our state and country should register with the new party to remove this government and end the suffering.”
The ADC has been adopted as the coalition’s platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC in the next election. The coalition brings together key opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra governor Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark, who now serves as interim chairman of the ADC.
At the coalition’s unveiling on July 2, Mark described the alliance as a move to rescue Nigeria’s democracy and prevent the country from sliding into a one-party system.
