The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has dealt a significant blow to insurgent operations in the North-East, neutralising key Boko Haram terrorists in targeted airstrikes on the Mandara Mountains in Borno State.
In a statement released on Monday, NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said the precision strikes were carried out on July 6, 2025, following confirmed intelligence on terrorist activities in the region.
According to the statement, the airstrikes targeted high-profile terrorist enclaves in Wa Jahode and Loghpere—longtime strongholds of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram.
“These locations, situated along Nigeria’s rugged border with Cameroon, had seen heightened terrorist activity in recent weeks, including reports of a buildup in logistics and the presence of senior JAS commanders,” Gabkwet said.
The operation followed detailed Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that revealed clusters of structures bearing black flags, solar panels, and fortified compounds—clear indicators of insurgent resurgence and planned coordinated attacks.
“In response, NAF deployed strike aircraft to carry out a series of well-coordinated interdictions, destroying key terrorist infrastructure, including logistics warehouses, command centres, and defensive shelters,” the statement read.
NAF confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised in the operation, effectively disrupting their supply chains and degrading their ability to launch further attacks.
The air force reiterated its commitment to sustaining counterterrorism efforts and restoring lasting peace to insurgency-affected areas across the country.
