The University of Jos branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has directed its members to commence a strike following the non-payment of June 2025 salaries.
The directive was issued by the branch chairman, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, in a message circulated to union members on Thursday night.
“Dear Comrades,” the message began, “this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 p.m. today, 3rd July 2025.”
Prof. Molwus stated that the directive was in line with a resolution by ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which empowers branches to take action if salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month. He added that the decision also aligns with a resolution adopted by the UNIJOS ASUU Congress on June 4, 2025.
“The action takes effect from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, 4th July 2025,” the statement read. “Please ensure full compliance until further notice. The branch’s strike monitoring team will be activated to ensure adherence.”
The development is expected to disrupt academic activities at the university until the outstanding salaries are paid or further directives are issued.
