President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for a two-nation visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President’s first stop will be Saint Lucia, where he is scheduled for a state visit aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties with Caribbean nations.
A major highlight of the visit will be President Tinubu’s address to a special joint session of the Saint Lucian Senate and House of Assembly, which will take place at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet. The event will be attended by the Heads of Government of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), senior Saint Lucian officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the Nigerian community in the country, and the Director-General of the OECS, Dr. Didacus Jules.
Following the joint parliamentary session, the President will hold a high-level working luncheon with OECS Heads of Government. He is also scheduled to visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to foster educational cooperation and promote academic exchange between Nigeria and the Caribbean.
President Tinubu will then proceed to Brazil, where he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit taking place in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7, 2025. Nigeria is attending the summit as a partner country, joining other African nations such as South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
The summit, themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” will centre on two main areas: advancing partnerships within the Global South and promoting BRICS collaboration in social, economic, and environmental development.
President Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials on both legs of the trip.
