MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50% reduction in the price of its DStv decoder, cutting the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 in a renewed push to attract new customers and reverse declining subscriptions.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, disclosed the price cut in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the move is part of a broader customer appreciation and value campaign.
“This initiative is about ensuring our customers feel valued while gaining access to top-tier entertainment every day,” Ugbe said. “The ‘We Got You’ campaign is designed to make premium content more accessible and demonstrate that DStv offers more than just football—it’s entertainment for everyone.”
He added that DStv is repositioning itself as a daily value platform, encouraging audiences to explore a wide variety of genres, including drama, movies, kids’ programming, and news.
“This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in daily,” the statement added.
In addition to the decoder discount, MultiChoice is offering subscribers a free upgrade to the next package tier when they pay for their current subscription in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025.
The company said both the price slash and the upgrade promotion were introduced in response to the economic challenges facing many Nigerians.
“This is our way of easing the burden on customers while giving them better value for their money,” MultiChoice stated.
The move comes after the company reportedly lost 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.
MultiChoice had come under fire after raising DStv and GOtv subscription prices three times within a year—first in April 2023, again in November 2023, and most recently in April 2024, with the latest increase taking effect on May 1.
