Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the killing of two Kano State indigenes by suspected youths in the Agan community of Makurdi.
The victims, who were reportedly transporting goods to the eastern part of the country, were attacked around 11 p.m. on Monday after stopping to buy a recharge card, according to a security source.
“They had parked in the Agan community to purchase a recharge card when they were attacked and killed by some youths,” the source said.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, Governor Alia described the act as “barbaric and unacceptable” and directed security agencies to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved.
“Five suspects have already been apprehended in Makurdi by the police following the Governor’s directive,” the statement confirmed.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Alia reaffirmed Benue’s long-standing reputation for peace and hospitality.
“We cannot allow a few criminal elements to destroy the image of our state. These perpetrators must be tracked down and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The governor extended his condolences to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and assured the people of Kano that justice would be served swiftly and decisively.
