The Tactical Squad operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have tracked down and arrested Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso, a suspected hired killer, cultist kingpin, and alleged leader of a violent gang terrorizing Mushin and its environs. According to the command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, Akinwande is one of the most wanted criminals in recent Lagos history.

The 44-year-old was apprehended at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, following multiple attempts by the Tactical Squad. For over a decade, from 2009 to 2024, Akinwande and his gang have inflicted terror through armed robberies, murders, kidnappings, and cult-related killings, particularly in Mushin. His reign spread fear and disrupted law and order in the area.

Hundeyin noted that Akinwande’s crimes have caused deep trauma and suffering for the victims’ families. Despite evading capture by moving across states, the Lagos State Police Command remained determined to bring him to justice. A raid on his Mushin residence yielded a cache of weapons and incriminating items, which he admitted were used in his criminal operations.

Among the items recovered were two AK-47 rifles, a K2 assault rifle, a Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made pistols, five magazines, numerous live cartridges of various calibers, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to different individuals.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), has been tasked with leading a team of detectives to expand investigations and apprehend other suspects connected to Akinwande. Four families have already identified him as responsible for the murders of their children and wards.

Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Olohundare Jimoh, reassured residents that their safety and security remain the top priority of the command.
