The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed that Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, voluntarily turned himself in for questioning following a viral video showing him holding a gun-like object.
“No one is above the law. Pastor Adefarasin has reported at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated as investigations proceed,” the police said in a post on X, adding that the outcome would be made public.
The video, which emerged earlier this month, shows the cleric driving a Range Rover, lowering his window, and holding a black object while interacting with a road user. The footage sparked widespread speculation that he was brandishing a firearm.
Pastor Adefarasin responded on his official X handle, denying the claims: “That was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
Acknowledging public concern, he appealed for calm and promised to address the matter during Sunday’s church service.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened after a passer-by recognized the pastor in traffic, prompting assumptions due to the raised object.
In a recent Sunday sermon streamed on YouTube, Adefarasin called the accusations “hurtful” and “malicious,” insisting he does not carry a firearm nor have a pistol license.
He criticized the spread of misinformation, suggesting financial motives behind the viral narrative, and described feeling “shocked” and “hurt” by the controversy.
“I am human. But God is touched by our infirmities and can turn evil to good,” the 62-year-old cleric said.
