NiMet forecasts three-day nationwide thunderstorms, rain

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, June 18.

In its three-day outlook released in Abuja, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms on Monday in northern states such as Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. Later in the day, heavier rainfall and storms are expected to affect Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kano, Jigawa, Kebbi, Katsina, and other northern areas.

In the North-Central region, morning showers are likely in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa states. Thunderstorms are forecast to spread across the entire region later in the day.

Southern states including Ebonyi, Abia, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Rivers, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River are expected to experience morning rainfall, with more widespread showers in the afternoon and evening across Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Delta, and other parts of the south.

On Tuesday, a similar pattern is expected, with early morning storms forecast for Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Zamfara in the north, and evening rainfall predicted in Gombe, Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, and surrounding areas.

In the North-Central zone, the FCT, Plateau, and Nasarawa are likely to see early rains, while Kogi, Niger, and Benue may experience thunderstorms in the evening.

The southern region will also receive morning rain in Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos, with additional areas including Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom expected to have rainfall by evening.

By Wednesday, early morning thunderstorms are forecast for Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba, followed by afternoon showers in Gombe and Jigawa.
