Tinubu returns to Abuja after two-week break in Lagos

President Bola Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after spending two weeks in Lagos, where he celebrated Eid al-Adha and carried out a series of official engagements.

Tinubu departed Lagos via the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, accompanied by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other senior government officials. Upon his arrival in the capital, the president proceeded to attend the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated and refurbished Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

During the inauguration, Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his dedication and urged him to remain focused on his mandate despite distractions.

“I am glad, Nyesom Wike, you are reflecting the kind of leadership we need. Don’t pay attention to busybodies and bystanders. Continue with your good work. You are a transformational leader with vision, foresight, and the determination to succeed,” Tinubu said.

Lagos Visit: Projects, celebrations, and high-level engagements

Tinubu had been in Lagos since May 27, 2025, where he participated in the 50th-anniversary celebrations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He also joined fellow Muslims in observing the Eid al-Adha festivities.

During his stay, the president commissioned several key infrastructure projects. On May 31, he inaugurated Phase 1, Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway—a 30km, six-lane expressway. Five days later, he flagged off the reconstruction of the access road to the Lekki Deep Seaport in a ceremony attended by business leaders and top government officials.

In addition to his official duties, President Tinubu hosted numerous high-profile guests at his Lagos residence, including current and former governors and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sanwo-Olu dispels rift rumors: “He is my father and my leader”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also paid a visit to Tinubu alongside members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the Lagos APC. This visit came amid rumors of a strained relationship between the president and the governor.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu dismissed the speculations and described his relationship with Tinubu as that of a father and son.

“There is no rift. Some people like to cry more than the bereaved,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Father and son matters are always clarified. He is my father and my leader. We’re grateful he gave us time to visit and greet him today.”
