The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has summoned controversial singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, following a viral video in which he appeared to admit to having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

The video, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, prompted swift intervention by NAPTIP, which issued a formal summons for the artist to appear for questioning.

“Mr. Darlington Okoye (AKA Speed Darlington) is urged to respond to the official invitation issued on May 28, 2025, regarding a viral video and others in which he admitted to sexually abusing a minor,” the agency posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. “Failure to respond may lead to further action.”

In the two-page letter, NAPTIP referenced not only the viral Instagram clip but also additional archived videos that allegedly contain similar admissions and “degrading commentary concerning minors.”

According to the agency, if substantiated, these acts could constitute violations of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA), 2015, and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

Speed Darlington is scheduled to appear at NAPTIP’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. He has been advised to bring along any relevant documentation or legal representation.

“Your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry,” the agency stated. “Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action.”

The case was escalated by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to NAPTIP following public backlash.

In a follow-up video, Speed Darlington claimed his initial comments were a publicity stunt to promote a new song. He later apologised to viewers who were offended.
