Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 16 Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the 25 Task Force Brigade headquarters in Damboa, near the Sambisa Forest.

The attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Friday when vigilant troops, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), sighted and engaged the insurgents with sustained indirect fire. After nearly two hours of intense combat, the terrorists were forced to retreat, with several fleeing with gunshot wounds.

Confirming the incident to The Telegraph, spokesperson for the Northeast Joint Taskforce, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, credited the successful defense to timely support from the air component of the Joint Task Force. He added that troops have since launched further offensives into the forest to eliminate fleeing militants.

Recovered from the site were weapons and materials used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

In a separate operation near Rann, headquarters of Kala Balge LGA, troops responded to intelligence reports of insurgents attempting to loot food supplies. Six terrorists were killed and an AK-47 rifle with ammunition was recovered.

Elsewhere, troops from Forward Operating Base Molai and the CJTF ambushed insurgents at a crossing point near Komala on the Maiduguri–Damboa Road, killing several and recovering motorcycles, IED components, and other materials.
