A one-storey building under construction collapsed on Sunday afternoon in the Mushin area of Lagos State, leaving one person dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque. According to the South-West Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, the body of the deceased was recovered around 8:18 p.m.
In a statement, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said a distress call was received at approximately 3:30 p.m., prompting a swift emergency response.
The three injured adult males were rescued from the debris and received immediate medical attention before being transferred to a hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

Emergency responders at the scene included personnel from the Isolo Fire Station, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the ambulance service, and the Nigeria Police. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, as officials continue to assess the structural collapse.
The cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and investigations are currently underway.
This tragedy comes less than a month after a similar incident in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos, where a three-storey building collapsed on Oremeta Street on April 19, killing one person. In that incident, 13 people were rescued from the rubble. The affected building reportedly housed a local restaurant and was still under construction at the time of the collapse.
Eyewitnesses in Mushin reported that Sunday’s collapse occurred shortly after staff had arrived at the site.
