Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season, ending a deeply emotional 20-year journey with his boyhood team.

In a heartfelt statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the 26-year-old described the decision as the most difficult of his life.

“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” he wrote. “This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made.”

Having risen through Liverpool’s academy ranks to become one of the club’s most influential players, Alexander-Arnold said he chose to stay silent about his future to remain fully focused on Liverpool’s pursuit of a historic 20th league title.

“I know many of you have wondered why I haven’t spoken about this until now, or felt frustrated by the silence, but my priority was always the team. I wanted to give everything I had to help us achieve No. 20,” he explained.

Reflecting on his two decades at Anfield, he expressed profound gratitude to everyone connected with the club.

“This club has been my whole life – my entire world – for 20 years. From the Academy to the first team, the love and support I’ve received from inside and outside the club will stay with me forever. I’ll always be in debt to you all.”

Alexander-Arnold said the decision to leave is rooted in a desire for personal and professional growth.

“I’ve never known anything else. This is about stepping out of my comfort zone, embracing a new challenge, and pushing myself to grow in new ways.”

Widely celebrated for his passing range and creativity from the back, the England international stressed that he had always given his all in Liverpool colours.

“I’ve given everything, every single day, and I hope you’ve felt that. I hope I’ve made you proud during my time here.”

He concluded his message with sincere thanks to all those who shaped his journey.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you – to my coaches, managers, teammates, staff, and our incredible supporters – for the last 20 years. I’ve been blessed to live out my dream, and I will never take for granted the moments we’ve shared. My love for this club will never fade.”

Alexander-Arnold departs with a legacy few can match, having helped deliver major trophies including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup.
