FCT doctors embark on three-day strike, give Wike ultimatum

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has announced a three-day warning strike starting Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

The decision followed an emergency congress held on Monday at Asokoro District Hospital.

Dr. George Ebong, president of the FCT ARD, stated that the strike was prompted by the dismissal of 127 health workers by the FCT Civil Service Commission last Friday, which they believe was done without proper procedures. He called the dismissal “inhumane and illegal,” demanding the immediate reinstatement of the workers and payment of their April salaries.

Dr. Ebong also called for the resignation of the chairman of the FCT-CSC, Emeka Ezeh. He warned that if their demands are not addressed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the FCT Administration within three days, they would escalate to an indefinite strike, potentially shutting down hospitals across the nation’s capital.
