Police arrest Portable in Kwara over alleged defamation

Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable
Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as “Portable.”

According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest followed a petition submitted by Fuji artist Mr. Okunola Saheed, widely known as “Osupa.”

“The petition involves serious allegations, including criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting language,” the statement read in part.

In light of the gravity of the allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the police obtained a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Acting on the warrant, operatives of the Command traveled to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 13, 2025. Portable was apprehended at approximately 7:25 p.m. and was immediately transferred to Ilorin for further investigation.

“Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody, and arrangements are underway to charge him to court without delay,” the statement added.

The controversy stems from Portable’s use of a popular phrase associated with Saheed Osupa, which prompted the Fuji singer’s team to file a formal complaint.

In a previous online outburst, Portable had hurled unflattering remarks at Osupa, sparking widespread backlash on social media. He later issued a public apology, attributing his actions to a loss of temper.
