‘I did not collapse,’ Wike denies rumours of ill health

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike
On Thursday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), dismissed social media rumors claiming he collapsed at an event last week.

Speaking after inspecting four ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Wike described the rumors as politically motivated, aimed at distracting attention from recent developments, including the remarks made by George Nwaeke, the former Rivers State Head of Service, about the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Wike firmly denied the claims, stating, “I’m a human being, not a ghost. If there were any health issues, I would collapse, but I did not collapse.” He also addressed the rumors about his death, saying, “Everybody will die one day, but only God decides when. To those who wished me dead, I assure you I’ll be writing their condolence letters.”

Reaffirming his commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s mandate, Wike stressed that the spread of false rumors was aimed at political gain.

Despite the claims circulating widely on social media, which alleged Wike collapsed and was rushed abroad for treatment, the minister made a public appearance just two days later during a Sallah visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he appeared in good health.

His media aide, Lere Olayinka, had already debunked the rumors, calling them completely false.
