Erling Haaland will be sidelined for up to seven weeks due to an ankle injury, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Norwegian forward was injured during Sunday’s 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth. After scoring his 30th goal of the season to equalize, Haaland was hurt in a challenge with Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook.
Manchester City issued a statement on Monday indicating that they expect Haaland to return before the end of the season, including in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.
“The doctors told me it could be between five and seven weeks, so hopefully he’ll be ready by the end of the season,” Guardiola said.

“We don’t have another player with his specific skills or qualities,” Guardiola added. “We know that, but we have to adapt. For many years, we’ve played in different ways up front. It depends on the quality of the players. We’ll find a solution.”
City, currently in fifth place in the Premier League, are fighting for a top-four finish to secure a Champions League spot for next season.
Guardiola’s side will face struggling Leicester at home on Wednesday, before taking on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
