Former Labour Party gov candidate Edeoga rejoins to PDP

Chijioke Edeoga
Chijioke Edeoga, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State, has officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speculation about his return had been fueled by a private meeting with PDP leadership in Enugu on January 31. On Monday, around noon, Edeoga, accompanied by supporters, drove in a convoy to the PDP state office at No. 1 Charles Street, GRA, Enugu. He was warmly received by state party leadership and stakeholders, led by Chairman Martins Chukwunweike.

Addressing party members, Edeoga expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah, his Eha-Amufu Ward III, Isi-Uzo LGA, and the state leadership for facilitating his smooth return. He reiterated his commitment to supporting the governor and the party’s efforts in transforming Enugu State.

“I’m happy to be here. I want to begin by thanking the governor of Enugu State. What happened today would not have been possible without his political involvement. His gesture demonstrates a mindset worthy of appreciation and support,” Edeoga said.

He further emphasized the significance of his return, stating it would mark a shift in Enugu State politics. “It’s no longer about harboring bitterness or ‘winner takes all.’ It’s about inclusivity, and that is what is being demonstrated here in Enugu State,” he added. Edeoga committed to helping PDP maintain its winning streak in the state.

Chukwunweike hailed Edeoga’s return as a strategic move for the party, noting that it aligned with Governor Mbah’s goal of uniting the PDP in Enugu. “Our main task as the state party leadership is to bring everyone together. With moves like this, the 2027 elections will be a walkover for the PDP in Enugu,” he said.

Isi-Uzo Council Chairman, Obiora Obeagu, also welcomed Edeoga’s return, calling it a milestone for both Isi-Uzo and Enugu PDP. He praised Governor Mbah’s leadership and the ongoing developmental projects in the region, including Smart Schools, healthcare centers, and road infrastructure, which he believes will further unite the party.

“This is a vindication for those of us in Isi-Uzo who supported Governor Mbah in 2023,” Obeagu said. “Today, Hon. Edeoga is making the same choice, and we are all united now, ready to join the governor in his efforts to transform Enugu State for the better.”
