President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), according to a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday.
Dr. Oloriegbe’s appointment, which will last for an initial term of four years, took effect on March 11, 2025.
A former Senator for Kwara Central in the 9th National Assembly, Oloriegbe brings a wealth of experience to the role. He holds a Master’s degree in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC Paris, as well as a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), the Nigeria Veneral Disease Association, the Guild of Medical Directors of Nigeria, the International AIDS Society (IAS), and the Africa Health Leadership and Management Network.
Dr. Oloriegbe previously served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023, and also held the position of Chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.
