Atalanta’s quest for their first Serie A title suffered a major setback on Sunday with a 1-0 loss at Fiorentina, ahead of crucial fixtures for Scudetto rivals Inter Milan and Napoli.
Moise Kean was the hero for Fiorentina, scoring the only goal of the match just before halftime. His 16th league goal of the season came after a clever interception of Atalanta defender Isak Hien on the halfway line, extending Fiorentina’s push for a spot in the European places.
Kean, who also netted a brace for Italy in last week’s win over Germany, has been in exceptional form this season. His goal propelled Fiorentina to within a point of the top six.
Atalanta’s defeat leaves them six points behind league leaders and reigning champions Inter Milan, who are expected to beat mid-table Udinese later on Sunday. Napoli, three points ahead of Atalanta in second place, could extend their lead in the day’s late match when they host AC Milan.
Atalanta, last season’s Europa League winners, had appeared to be strong title contenders after a remarkable 11-match winning streak from October to December. However, their form has faltered since the turn of the year, with Gian Piero Gasperini’s side winning just four league matches in 2025, all away from home. They now sit only two points clear of fourth-placed Bologna.
