Nigeria secured a vital 2-0 victory over Rwanda in their CAF World Cup qualification Group C clash on Friday, with Victor Osimhen scoring both goals to seal the win.

Osimhen gave the Super Eagles an early lead in the 11th minute, converting a precise cross from Ademola Lookman. The striker then doubled Nigeria’s advantage just before halftime, finding the back of the net in first-half stoppage time (45+3’).

The match was fiercely contested, with Rwanda’s D. Bizimana receiving a yellow card in the 46th minute, followed by Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi who was booked in the 49th minute.

Despite Rwanda having 45% possession, they struggled to break through Nigeria’s resolute defense, managing only two shots on target. Nigeria, in contrast, registered three shots on target and earned eight corner kicks, dominating offensive play throughout.

With the win, Nigeria moves up to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches, keeping their World Cup qualification hopes alive.

South Africa currently leads the group with 10 points, followed by Benin (8 points) and Rwanda (7 points).

Nigeria will now shift focus to their upcoming fixtures, aiming to climb further in the standings and secure a spot in the next stage of the qualification campaign.
