The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has announced that, starting in March 2025, all Corps members will begin receiving the new monthly allowance of N77,000.
This increase follows a promise made by the Federal Government six months ago to raise the allowance from N33,000 to N77,000. The official approval for the adjustment was outlined in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by Chairman Mr. Ekpo Nta, in accordance with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
In a statement by the Corps’ Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, General Nafiu reassured Corps members that both the NYSC and the Federal Government are fully committed to their welfare and will continue to prioritize their well-being.
General Nafiu shared this update during an interaction with Corps members at the NYSC Zonal Offices in Wuse and Garki, Abuja, on Thursday.
He expressed his gratitude to the Corps members for their dedicated service to the nation, urging them to remain calm, focused, disciplined, and dedicated in their duties. He also commended the founders of the Scheme for their vision and called for continued support from all sectors.
Describing the NYSC as a unique program that fosters unity and exposes young graduates to the cultural values of different regions, General Nafiu emphasized that the management would continue to instill the values of patriotism, discipline, self-restraint, leadership, and teamwork in future Corps members.
“Effective from March, your monthly allowance will be Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira. NYSC is known for its accurate record-keeping, so rest assured that your payments will be made promptly. The nation and the Scheme deeply appreciate your service,” he concluded.
