Google has unveiled two new features, Canvas and Audio Overview, as part of its Gemini AI suite, aimed at enhancing content creation and interaction.
Canvas is designed to help users create, edit, and refine their work in real-time. By selecting ‘Canvas’ from the prompt bar, users can write and edit documents or code, with changes appearing instantly. This feature is set to significantly streamline the editing process, allowing for seamless, AI-assisted revisions.
These features, which enhance AI-driven content creation, are being rolled out globally for Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers, according to a post on Google’s blog.
With these updates, Gemini now goes beyond brainstorming and research, offering real-time document editing and coding assistance. “Gemini can already help you brainstorm ideas, conduct deep research, and generate content for any project. And starting today, Gemini will offer even more help—whether it’s editing a document in real-time or turning your idea into a coded prototype,” Google said.
Both Canvas and Audio Overview are being launched globally, with Canvas available in all supported languages, and Audio Overview initially launching in English. Users can access both features via Gemini’s web interface or mobile app.
Canvas enables users to effortlessly generate high-quality drafts and refine them with AI-powered suggestions. “Need to update specific sections or entire drafts? Easily adjust the tone, length, or formatting with quick editing tools,” Google explained.
Canvas also offers powerful functionality for coding, allowing users to generate code, debug, and receive explanations. Developers can quickly transform their ideas into working prototypes, including web apps, Python scripts, and games. “Canvas empowers developers to create initial working versions of their projects and offers students a space to learn coding concepts quickly,” Google added.
With Canvas, users can generate and preview HTML/React code, modify input fields, and add buttons with instant updates—streamlining the coding process and reducing the need to switch between multiple applications.
On the other hand, Audio Overview is designed to transform documents, presentations, and research reports into engaging, AI-generated audio discussions. Building on the excitement surrounding a similar feature in NotebookLM, Gemini creates a podcast-style conversation between two AI hosts. These hosts dive into a lively discussion, summarizing content, connecting key topics, and offering unique insights based on the uploaded files.
Audio Overview aims to enhance learning by converting class notes, research papers, and even email threads into dynamic audio summaries, making information more accessible and engaging.
