Manchester United extended their unbeaten streak in open play to seven games with a commanding 3-0 victory over a struggling Leicester City.
Rasmus Højlund ended a 21-match goal drought, giving United the lead with a clinical finish in the 28th minute.
Alejandro Garnacho, who had been waiting since November for his next goal, saw a potential strike ruled offside early in the second half. However, the Argentine was not to be denied, and he doubled United’s lead with a well-taken shot that Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen should have done better with.
United’s dominance continued in their four meetings with Leicester this season, securing victories in all of them, including two games when Leicester’s current manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, was briefly in charge at Old Trafford.
However, van Nistelrooy’s reign has not had the same effect at Leicester, with the Foxes suffering their 13th defeat in their last 14 league games, leaving them nine points adrift of safety. In addition, Leicester set an unwanted Premier League record, becoming the first team to go seven consecutive home games without scoring.
Bruno Fernandes put the result beyond doubt with a stunning strike from the edge of the box, his seventh goal in as many games, ensuring a comfortable victory for Erik ten Hag’s men.
