Defamation: Court adjourns Falanas’ case against VDM to April 15

Femi Falana (SAN) and Verydarkman.
An Ikeja High Court on Wednesday adjourned the alleged defamation case against social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM), until April 15.

The suit was filed by human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin, popularly known as Falz, in response to an audio recording by cross-dresser Bobrisky, which accused the Falanas of perverting justice.

Justice Matthias Dawodu adjourned the case due to the absence of Verydarkman and his legal team. VDM’s lead counsel, Mr. Marvin Omorogbe, had sent a letter dated February 18, 2025, requesting the case be postponed to a date in March or April, citing a domestic emergency that prevented his availability.

Counsel for the Falanas, Mr. Omotayo Olatunbosun, argued that the request was merely a “time-wasting tactic” by the defense.

At the court’s prompting, Olatunbosun proceeded to file a counter-affidavit, challenging Verydarkman’s preliminary objection to the defamation suit.

As a result, the court adjourned the matter to April 15, 2025, for the hearing of the preliminary objection.
