The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Moshood Jimoh as the new Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command.
Jimoh, who served as the Force Public Relations Officer from January 2017 to January 2019, has held several key positions within the police force, including Deputy Commissioner of Airport Police, Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Administration, Deputy Commissioner of General Investigation, and Commissioner of Police for the Ports Authority at Eastern Ports.
In a statement released on Monday, PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani announced Jimoh’s appointment, effective February 17, 2025. “The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of Moshood Jimoh as Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command,” Ani said.
A native of Kwara State, Jimoh has undergone various professional training, including courses in Combat Operations, Weapons of Mass Destruction Countermeasure, Maritime Rescue, and Anti-Hijacking techniques, with institutions in countries such as China, the United States, Sudan, and South Korea.
Jimoh is also a recipient of the prestigious Presidential Award for Public Relations Personality of the Year, which recognizes his outstanding contributions to public relations in Nigeria.
The appointment was confirmed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, who made the announcement in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
“In a strategic move to bolster internal security and enhance operational effectiveness, IGP Egbetokun has redeployed CP Jimoh Moshood as Commissioner of Police for Lagos State,” the statement read.
The IGP emphasized Jimoh’s wealth of experience, particularly his prior roles at Force Headquarters and as Commissioner of Police for Eastern Ports in Rivers State. He is well-regarded for his expertise in communications, administration, and public relations, as well as his operational skills, making him well-suited for the Lagos State role.
The IGP added that Jimoh’s appointment is expected to strengthen security operations, enhance community engagement, and uphold professional standards in Lagos.
“CP Moshood’s appointment is expected to strengthen coordination among police units, improve community relations, and ensure the highest level of professionalism in Lagos State,” said ACP Adejobi.
The IGP also tasked Jimoh with maintaining law and order while implementing strategies to safeguard the safety and security of residents and their properties.
“IGP Egbetokun has charged CP Jimoh to uphold the rule of law, lead with integrity, enforce discipline, and implement proactive strategies to protect lives and property,” the statement concluded.
