UNIZIK expels student for biting lecturer in clash over TikTok video

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, following an assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

The decision was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the Acting Registrar, Victor Modebelu. According to Modebelu, the Acting Vice-Chancellor had received a report from the Student Disciplinary Committee regarding the incident, which involved Precious assaulting Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer from the department.

The Acting Registrar noted that the expulsion was based on the committee’s recommendation, which determined that the student’s actions constituted a severe violation of the university’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).

“The Acting Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee, which concluded that the assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies was a serious misconduct and a direct breach of the Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR),” the statement read.

“As a result, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, acting on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the expulsion, which is effective immediately. You are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.”

Precious has been instructed to vacate the university premises immediately and return any university property in her possession. The incident, which drew significant public attention after a video of the altercation surfaced online, reportedly saw Precious attacking Dr. Okoye.
