Nigerian Army redeploys senior officers in fresh shake-up

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has approved the redeployment of senior Nigerian Army officers to critical command, staff, and instructional positions, as part of efforts to enhance the Army’s operational effectiveness.

The reshuffle, announced on Saturday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, involves major changes at the highest levels, impacting Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at Army Headquarters, General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, and Commandants of training institutions.

According to the statement, the move highlights the Army’s commitment to ensuring a dynamic leadership structure that can effectively tackle contemporary security challenges.

Notable appointments include:

  • Maj-Gen. LA Fejokwu, previously at the National Defence College, appointed as the Chief of Administration (Army) in the Department of Army Administration.
  • Maj-Gen. GU Chibuisi, formerly at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, appointed as the Chief of Civil Military Affairs in the Department of Civil Military Affairs.
  • Maj-Gen. AS Ndalolo, also from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, appointed as the Chief of Training (Army) in the Department of Army Training, among other PSO appointments.

Additionally, several senior officers have been appointed as General Officers Commanding (GOCs):

  • Maj-Gen. OT Olatoye, formerly at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, appointed GOC 82 Division/Commander JTF South-East Operation UDO KA (OPUK).
  • Maj-Gen. EF Oyinlola, previously in the Department of Military Secretary, appointed GOC 3 Division/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH).

The acting appointments of Maj-Gen. AGL Haruna as GOC 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 JTF North East Operation HADIN KAI, and Maj-Gen. IA Ajose as GOC 8 Division/Commander Sector 2 JTF North West Operation FANSAN YANMA have been confirmed as substantive positions.

Lt-Gen. Oluyede urged all newly appointed senior officers to bring renewed vigour, dedication, and commitment to their roles, particularly in the ongoing fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other national security threats. He also emphasized that the welfare of troops must remain a top priority as they transition into their new appointments, ensuring sustained operational success.

Maj-Gen. Nwachukwu conveyed the Army Chief’s call for the continued strengthening of the Army’s leadership to meet evolving security challenges effectively.
