West Ham appoints ex-Chelsea boss, Graham Potter, head coach

West Ham United has confirmed the appointment of former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, as the club’s new head coach.

The club announced on Thursday that Potter, 49, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and will make his managerial debut for the Hammers in the FA Cup third round against Aston Villa on Friday evening.

“West Ham United is delighted to welcome Graham Potter as the club’s new head coach,” the statement read. “A highly respected and sought-after coach, Potter has been waiting for the right opportunity since leaving Chelsea in April 2023. He was the unanimous choice of the Board to lead the club forward in line with its goals and ambitions.”

Known for his progressive style and tactical flexibility, Potter gained recognition for his successful stints at Swedish club Östersund, Swansea City, and Brighton & Hove Albion. He expressed excitement about returning to Premier League management and looks forward to working with West Ham’s talented squad of international players.
