Tottenham confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur was “conscious” after being rushed to the hospital following a concerning injury in Wednesday’s League Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.

Bentancur, the Uruguay midfielder, went down after attempting to head a corner in the 7th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He remained on the ground after falling unchallenged, prompting immediate concern from his teammates. Play was halted for nine minutes as medical staff attended to him, and he was eventually replaced by Brennan Johnson.

The 27-year-old received oxygen through a mask while being treated, with a quiet atmosphere falling over the crowd.

Tottenham reassured fans about Bentancur’s condition, noting that he had recently returned from a seven-game ban related to a racial slur involving teammate Son Heung-min.

“We can confirm that Rodrigo is conscious, talking, and will be taken to the hospital for further checks,” the club said in a statement on X during the half-time interval.
