The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that corps members across Nigeria will soon begin receiving a monthly allowance of ₦77,000.

Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the NYSC Director-General, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja, as confirmed in a statement by NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu.

General Ahmed emphasized that his administration prioritizes the welfare of corps members, revealing that all arrangements for the payment of the new allowance have been finalized.

The increase in the monthly allowance follows the review of Nigeria’s minimum wage, which was raised from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 in July 2024.

In 2020, the NYSC had previously raised corps members’ allowances from ₦19,800 to ₦33,000, shortly after the introduction of the ₦30,000 minimum wage.

In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage bill into law, concluding months of negotiations between government officials, labor unions, and the private sector.
