Tinubu to attend inauguration of Ghana’s president-elect, Mahama

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on January 6, 2025, for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama on January 7, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Mahama, who served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was reelected in December 2024. He will succeed outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo, whose term ends in 2025.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu’s visit to Accra follows an invitation from Mahama, who had visited the Nigerian leader in December 2024. The two leaders share a strong personal relationship, and the nations of Nigeria and Ghana maintain long-standing bilateral ties.

As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will join other African leaders at the inauguration ceremony.

The statement also revealed that Tinubu will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials.
