Governor Siminalayi Fubara presents staff of office to Mujahid Asari Dokubo.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially presented staff of office and certificates to four newly recognized monarchs in the state, acknowledging their important roles as leaders and custodians of culture.

Among the honorees is Mujahid Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta freedom fighter, who was bestowed the title of His Royal Highness, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in the Degema Local Government Area. Also recognized were HRM Winston Odize Alamina Oputibeya XII, named the Amanyanabo of Koniju in Okrika Local Government Area; HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwoh (CSP rtd), who became the Eze Igbu-Ehuda IV in Ahoada-East Local Government Area; and HRH Prince Ike Ehie, recognized as the Eze Igbu Orilukwoe, also in Ahoada-East.

The recognition ceremony took place at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday and marked the official acknowledgment of the monarchs as key cultural and community leaders within their respective domains.

In his address, Governor Fubara stressed the pivotal role of traditional rulers in fostering unity, peace, and development across the state. He urged the newly appointed monarchs to use their positions to collaborate with the government in ensuring the protection of lives and property in their regions.

He further advised the monarchs not to view their new roles as avenues for personal gain, but as a solemn responsibility to serve their people and work alongside the government for the greater good. “Your appointment is not for personal aggrandizement, but a call to service, a duty to help us safeguard lives and property in your domains,” Fubara remarked.

The governor also cautioned the traditional rulers to refrain from using their positions to create conflict within their communities. While reiterating that the government holds the authority to withdraw recognition if necessary, he made it clear that his intent is to work in partnership with the monarchs to advance the administration’s goals and deliver tangible benefits to the people.

“I don’t want you to use this elevation as a platform to create problems,” he emphasized. “You must support the course of governance so that we can all succeed together.”

In his opening remarks, the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Engr. Charles Amadi, highlighted that the newly recognized monarchs include two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses, and praised Governor Fubara for expanding the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.
