Aisha Maikudi appointed as substantive VC of UniAbuja

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), led by Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita, has officially appointed Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The announcement was made during the Council’s 77th Extraordinary Meeting on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. Professor Maikudi’s appointment takes effect on January 1, 2025, and is for a non-renewable five-year term.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Habib Yakoob, Professor Maikudi emerged as the top candidate from a pool of ten shortlisted applicants, following interviews conducted by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, in accordance with the University’s regulations.

Before being appointed as the substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maikudi had served as Acting Vice-Chancellor since July 5, 2024, during which time she played a pivotal role in stabilizing the University amidst a challenging crisis, demonstrating exceptional leadership and dedication to the institution’s growth.

Born on January 31, 1983, in Katsina State, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi is an accomplished scholar and a Professor of International Law at the University of Abuja. Her educational background includes an LLB from the University of Reading in 2004, an LLM in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005, and a PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja in 2015.

Professor Maikudi began her academic career at the University of Abuja as a Lecturer II on September 4, 2008, and steadily advanced through the ranks, becoming a full professor in 2021.
