Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has regained his freedom after meeting the conditions for his bail and is now en route to his Lagos home.

The news was shared by politician and activist Omoyele Sowore, who announced on X that Farotimi was no longer being held at the prison in Ekiti State.

Sowore wrote: “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti state and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!”

Farotimi had been granted N30 million bail earlier this week by a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti. He was arrested earlier this month for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).

Following his arrest, Farotimi was remanded at a correctional facility in Ado Ekiti, where he arrived under heavy security on Friday morning. After being granted bail, Peter Obi offered to assist in meeting the conditions required for his release.
