Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre after fulfilling the N500 million bail condition set by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.
In addition to the financial requirement, the bail also stipulates that Bello provide three sureties, each of whom must own property in high-value areas of Abuja, such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro.
The bail was granted on Thursday by Justice MaryAnne Anenih.
Bello’s release was confirmed by his spokesperson, Adama Duza, who also stated that the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in the FCT, Ajibogun Olatubosun, was present when the former governor regained his freedom.
Bello is facing a 16-count charge of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Also implicated in the case are Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu. All three defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
