Police barricade Emir Sanusi II’s palace, restrict movement

Tension is rising in Kano as police have barricaded the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, preventing him from attending a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area. The event, which was scheduled to feature the presentation of a staff of office to the new District Head of Bichi, has been disrupted by the security measures.

Sources within the Kano Emirate revealed that heavily armed security forces, including armored personnel carriers (APCs), blocked the entrance to the Emir’s palace, halting all movement. “The Emir was about to leave for the ceremony when security operatives arrived and ordered him to remain indoors,” said an anonymous palace source.

Efforts by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to intervene also faced significant obstacles. His delegation, which was sent to mediate, was reportedly denied access past the barricade. “His Excellency sent representatives to meet with the Emir, but they were not allowed past the security cordon,” a government source stated.

The venue for the Bichi event was also surrounded by security personnel, leaving attendees and organizers stranded.

When contacted for comment, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Haruna declined to speak, stating, “I cannot comment on the matter at this time.”

The incident has sparked widespread speculation about its possible political motives, though neither the state government nor the Emirate Council has issued an official statement.
