Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal on Thursday presented a ₦545 billion appropriation bill for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
The proposed budget allocates 28% to recurrent expenditure, amounting to ₦151.68 billion, while capital expenditure stands at ₦393.33 billion, representing 72% of the total budget.
Governor Lawal emphasized that the 2025 budget is a strategic roadmap aimed at addressing the state’s pressing needs and securing a prosperous future for Zamfara residents.
“This budget is a vision for the future of Zamfara. It reflects our commitment to transforming challenges into opportunities and building a more prosperous, secure state,” Lawal said in a statement issued by his spokesman, Sulaiman Idris.
He highlighted the state’s impressive 240.44% revenue growth over the past 18 months, which has elevated Zamfara from 36th to 26th in Nigeria’s internal revenue rankings. Lawal attributed this success to the administration’s aggressive revenue generation efforts, improved accountability, and measures to block revenue leakages.
“While this achievement is notable, we recognize that the increase is relative, and we remain committed to exploring all revenue sources to further boost our financial sustainability,” the governor added.
The governor also pointed to transformative projects, such as the Gusau International Airport, as key initiatives designed to strengthen the state’s economy and enhance its financial position.
The proposed budget for 2025 slightly exceeds the 2024 budget and is seen as a response to ongoing economic reforms and inflationary pressures affecting various sectors across the nation.
