Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially signed the Lagos Electricity Bill into law, marking a significant milestone in the state’s energy sector.
The signing ceremony, held at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, was attended by Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat, members of the State Assembly, and members of the State Executive Council.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the State House of Assembly for its swift passage of the bill, emphasizing that the new law will significantly enhance the socio-economic well-being of Lagos residents.
He highlighted that the bill, which has been in the works for several years, will guarantee a steady power supply for Lagosians.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, explained that the new law will introduce an additional grid for Lagos, effectively eliminating frequent blackouts in the state.
He added, “With this law in place, residents can expect regular power supply. Additionally, the Host Community Development Trust Fund will offer opportunities for communities to develop power plants.”
Ogunleye described the law as a beacon of progress, ensuring uninterrupted power supply for the state and paving the way for sustained growth in the energy sector.
