Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have successfully carried out a series of clearance operations across several bandit hideouts in Taraba State.
The operation, dubbed OP GOLDEN PEACE, was launched after a series of confidence-building patrols, clearance missions, and engagements with local stakeholders, which proved effective in the northern part of the state.
The latest phase of the operation began on November 28, 2024, in Takum Local Government Area, targeting known bandit and terrorist hideouts around Lijem High Ground. The troops cleared the area, extending their presence along the power line near Vingiri and Vingir villages, reassuring local residents and boosting their confidence in the security forces.
On November 29 and 30, 2024, further operations targeted the villages of Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume. In the notorious terrorist camps of New Gboko and Che Adekpe—linked to the wanted criminal Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, also known as Boujogh—troops engaged in intense firefights with the bandits. The superior firepower of the troops forced the bandits into a hasty retreat, leaving their camps in disarray.
During the exploitation phase, several bandit camps were destroyed, and the troops recovered significant materials, including 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, one handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.
To further secure the region, on November 30, 2024, the troops advanced into the Akume and Ananum areas of Donga Local Government Area, reinforcing the Brigade’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Taraba State.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of local communities and urged them to remain vigilant and continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies.
“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” General Uwa affirmed.
