The Imo State Government has officially approved the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for state workers.
Governor Hope Uzodimma made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon at the Government House in Owerri, following a meeting with labor leaders.
Uzodimma emphasized that the government’s commitment to the welfare of Imo workers and pensioners remains a top priority. “Our commitment to the welfare of Imo workers and pensioners is a sacred obligation, and we have reaffirmed this by approving the ₦70,000 national minimum wage for our state employees,” he shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The governor explained that this decision is part of the state government’s broader effort to prioritize the welfare of its workforce. “This decision, which follows extensive consultations with labor leaders, reflects our dedication to improving the living conditions of our workers,” Uzodimma stated.
In addition to the minimum wage increase, the governor announced a 10% salary increment for employees on consolidated salary structures, ensuring fair wage adjustments across all categories of workers.
The government also approved the payment of outstanding pensions and gratuities for retirees in the state. “Beyond the minimum wage, we are also addressing the financial reflection of recent promotions earned by employees and continuing our regular 13th-month salary payment,” Uzodimma noted.
Moreover, the state has taken steps to enhance the welfare of retirees by enrolling them in the State Healthcare Services Scheme, which will provide them with access to free medical care. The government also confirmed the commencement of gratuity payments for the next batch of retirees, further solidifying its commitment to their well-being.
As Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Uzodimma reiterated that these efforts reflect the government’s broader vision for the continued growth and development of the state’s workforce.
