Church services at the Potter’s House of Dallas came to an abrupt halt on Sunday when Bishop T.D. Jakes, the renowned pastor and motivational speaker, suffered a health incident mid-sermon.
Jakes, 67, had been sharing his passion for preaching just moments before the incident occurred. Speaking to the congregation, he expressed his enduring love for his calling: “I still love to preach. I ain’t tired of preaching,” Jakes said. “I miss you.”
He went on to reflect on the rewarding nature of preaching: “Have you ever gone to a hospital to visit somebody, thinking you’re there to encourage them, and they end up encouraging you? That’s what preaching is like. You think you’re giving out something, but you end up receiving more than you gave.”
As Jakes transitioned to quoting Psalm 19:14 before going silent.
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let them go in peace,” he said before suddenly falling silent.
In a moment of distress, Jakes appeared to spasm while seated, his gaze distant. Concerned members of the congregation rushed to his side, while a speaker urged attendees to pray for the pastor’s well-being as medical assistance was called for.
Later that afternoon, Jakes’ official X (formerly Twitter) account shared an update regarding the incident. “During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message,” the post read.
The statement also reassured followers that Jakes was in stable condition and receiving care from medical professionals. “The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community,” the update concluded. “Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers.”
