Gov. Alia approves N75,000 minimum wage for Benue workers

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has approved the implementation of a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants in the state, effective from November 2024.

The governor made the announcement during a press briefing following a closed-door meeting with the Joint Negotiation Council, which includes representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other affiliated unions. The meeting took place at the state secretariat.

In his remarks, the chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council commended the governor for his decision, which also includes the payment of three months’ outstanding salary arrears inherited from the previous administration.

The meeting was attended by members of the Joint Negotiation Council, which includes representatives from the NLC, TUC, and other affiliated unions. Governor Alia was joined by several members of his cabinet during the one-hour closed-door session.

At the conclusion of the meeting, journalists were invited to a briefing, where the governor officially announced the approval of the N75,000 minimum wage. The chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council also expressed the council’s full support for the governor’s efforts, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring effective service delivery in the state.
