The Federal Government has partnered with Siemens Healthineers to sign an agreement for the procurement of advanced equipment that will enhance the capabilities of six oncology centers across Nigeria.
This collaboration aims to significantly improve cancer care and treatment options for patients nationwide.
According to a statement issued by Tashikalma Halls, Special Adviser on Media Relations to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Minister supervised the signing of this pivotal agreement between the Federal Government, represented by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), and Siemens Healthineers.
The Minister emphasized that the agreement goes beyond a mere commercial deal, representing a strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors to tackle some of the country’s most urgent healthcare challenges. He noted that the first of the newly equipped centers is expected to be operational by May 2025, marking the beginning of a transformative era in Nigeria’s cancer care landscape.
Professor Pate further highlighted that this initiative represents the first large-scale investment in advanced cancer treatment infrastructure in Nigeria. It will empower the healthcare system to provide timely, high-quality care to cancer patients, addressing a significant gap in treatment availability.
The agreement also ensures that the new equipment will be complemented by a well-trained, highly skilled workforce, enabling treatment to commence immediately upon the completion of the new facilities.
By combining state-of-the-art technology with specialized training, the partnership aligns with the Nigerian government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system, as outlined in the National Health Sector Reform Implementation Initiative (NHSRII). This initiative underscores the government’s vision for a healthcare system that meets the highest international standards and is responsive to the needs of the Nigerian people.
