Court sacks Okocha, reinstates Beke as Rivers APC chairman

The political drama in the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Rivers State has taken an interesting twist as the state high court on Monday sacked the caretaker committee chairman, Tony Okocha.

Justice Sika Aprioku, instead, nullified the sack of Emeka Beke as APC chairman and reinstated him.

The court also nullified the dissolution of the elected state working committee led by Beke while simultaneously nullifying the appointment of Okocha and his caretaker committee members.

The judge further issued an order restraining Okocha and his members from parading themselves as exco members of the APC in the oil-rich state.

In a swift reaction Okocha questioned the motive of the judge in delivering the judgement against him while insisting that he’s still in charge and that he’s appealing the judgement.

In a separate press briefing, Beke thanked his supporters for standing firm and the judiciary for not being cowed.

When pressed on other issues, Beke said the APC would take part in the council elections, that Martin Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers are members of the APC and that they would be invited to pledge their loyalty in the coming days.
