Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has pledged to secure at least 50 per cent of the state’s votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Soludo made the pledge on Saturday at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka during the flag-off of the All Progressives Grand Alliance’s (APGA) 2027 National Campaign.

The governor announced that APGA would not field a presidential candidate in 2027 but would instead support Tinubu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He attributed the party’s decision to what he described as Tinubu’s show of goodwill and concern for the Igbo people, particularly Anambra State.

Soludo recalled that Tinubu appointed several indigenes of Anambra to strategic positions in Lagos State during his tenure as governor, adding that APGA’s decision to support the ruling party’s presidential candidate was consistent with political arrangements the party had maintained in previous election cycles.

“Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as our candidate,” he declared.

The governor also recalled that Anambra recorded fewer than 5,000 votes for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, but argued that the President had continued to address some of the challenges confronting the state and the South-East.

He urged Anambra residents to support Tinubu in the next election, arguing that a stronger electoral mandate would strengthen the state’s ability to engage the Federal Government and negotiate for development projects and other benefits for the region.

“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State,” Soludo said.
