Vice-President Kashim Shettima disembarks from the presidential jet in Kaduna State on December 7, 2023.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, Niger State, to condole with Governor Umaru Bago, the people of the state and the families of those who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Shettima was received at the airport by Governor Bago and other senior government officials.

The Vice President is expected to convey the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to the Niger State Government and the families of the deceased.

His visit is also expected to reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting ongoing investigations into the deaths and ensuring that the circumstances surrounding the incident are fully established.

During his visit, Shettima is expected to meet with Governor Bago, families of the deceased and other stakeholders.

A total of 37 suspected illegal miners died in September while in NSCDC custody.

The deaths sparked public concern and prompted the Federal Government to constitute an independent committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
